POWER TO THE WOMEN
5 badass women staring in some badass movies

“I am women hear me roar”
My favourite line of music to ever be written because I love nothing more than being a woman, standing up and shouting from the roof tops that I can do anything a man can do. The past 10 weeks of isolation have been filled with Netflix originals, independent SBS movie, Stan classics and Disney throw backs. Sitting at the top of my list is Bombshell. I did a cheeky rent off iTunes and we were on our way. The movie gives us an inside look at the perverted sexual abuse at America's most powerful news network, Fox News. The movie follows Megan Kelly & Gretchen Carlson, two of Roger Ailes victims. Following the legal law suit against Fox News back in 2016, from start to finish, Bombshell is the movie to watch this year.
Along with Bombshell, these are some of my favourite movies, featuring some amazing true stories of women who change history. I personally look up to these women as they stood up for what they believed was right, despite being told they were to be seen and not heard. These women were in fact heard and I'm proud to now know their story.
Bombshell
The provocative real story of three whip-smart, ambitious, strong women who anchored one of America's most powerful news networks -- becoming headlines themselves when they risked everything to stand up to the man who made them famous.
Hidden Figures
Three female African-American mathematicians play a pivotal role in astronaut John Glenn's launch into orbit. Meanwhile, they also have to deal with racial and gender discrimination at work.
FRIDA
Based on the true story of the life of the artist Frida Kahlo who shares an unstable and complex relationship with her husband and also has an illicit affair with Leon Trotsky.
ON THE BASIS OF SEX
Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a struggling attorney and new mother who faces adversity and numerous obstacles in her fight for equal rights. When Ruth takes on a groundbreaking tax case with her husband, attorney Martin Ginsburg, she knows it could change the direction of her career and the way the courts view gender discrimination.
becoming Jane
Becoming Jane introduces us to a 20 year old Jane Austen, highly unconventional and perilously close to old-maid status by 18th century England standards. Meeting many of the people in her world that would later shape characters in her celebrated novels. Among them is roguish Irishman, Tom Lefroy (James McAvoy), the man with whom she has a passionate yet unapproved love affair.
